四日振りに受診箱を覗くと、山のように迷惑メールが溜まっていた。自動的に迷惑フォルダに入るものと、自分で迷惑メールと指定した後に入るものがあるのだが、最近は海外から個人名でワケの分からないものが度々入ってくるので、その度に捨てなくてはならない。宛名がないので、不特定多数または何かしら検索ワードで引っかかった人を対象に送っているのだと思うが、大抵、途方もない不労所得の話である。
今回はこのような話だった。

いくら信心のない親戚に財産を譲りたくないとは言え、見も知らぬニンゲンに$10,500,000.00を託そうとは太っ腹である。
勿論、これまではこの手の話は無視してそのままゴミ箱に入れていたのだが、日本の迷惑メールと違って海外からのはこのように妙に芸が細かい。日本のように「当選しました！」みたいなものなら分かり易いのだが、癌で死にそうだとか、弁護士に連絡してくれとか、孤児のために使ってくれとか、人を騙すにしても手が込んでいる。それで一度、騙されたフリをしてsincerely な感じで返信してみたらどんな反応が来るのであろうかと興味が湧き、このように書き送ってみた。

I have been the attorney to Mrs. M*** J*** for 7 years, whom is currently suffering from cancer and presently preparing to undergo surgery, so i am in no position to question her orders as to give away her assets to whom is deem fit to have it.To her, the chances of her surviving is slim, so she has asked me to carry out her dying wish since she has no surviving relatives whom she can WILL her possessions to. So it is my duties to verify whom ever she has directed to contact me, since she cannot entertain any calls or messages. ちなみに、大きな文字になっているところは原文のままである。住所や名前、最終的にはそのお金を振り込むために銀行の口座番号を教えてくれという話になるのだろう。もし、言う通りにそれらを教えたらどうなるのか。なにがしかのお金が振り込まれ、お金を貸したと言いがかりをつけられて高い利息を請求されるのだろうか。あるいはまた、一種のマネーロンダリングのようなことにその口座を利用されるのであろうか。一ヶ月ほど前には英国のとあるデザイン会社（実際に、ネットで調べたらその会社は実在するようだった）から、その会社と取引のある中国の大手電気会社からの売り上げ金が直接英国に振り込まれると多額の課税がされるので、貴方の口座名義を一度通過させてもらえないか、そうすれば収益の何割かをお礼として差し上げますという、また手の込んだ怪しいメールを受け取ったこともあった。
いずれにしろ、やはりこの「弁護士」の狙いは大文字で書かれた個人情報であることがはっきりしてきた。そこで、このようにまた返信してみた。

しかし、どうもワタクシの真意が伝わらなかったようです。ワタクシは Mrs. M*** J***様の財産を受け取る気は毛頭ございません。もし彼女が本当に財産を良き事に使いたいとお思いなら、 どうかどこか慈善団体にご寄付下さい（例えば赤十字とか)。ご寄付に私の仲介は不要ですので、ワタシの住所や電話番号はお伝えいたしません。
彼女がどうかイノチを全うされ、その財産を孤児たちや恵まれない人びとの為に役立てられるようお祈り申し上げます。かしこ。
